Statement of Purpose

This group is about community & accountability. It is
to help us all form or maintain good writing habits,
to balance pocket-filling work with spirit-fueling work
to show up to our projects, to give our geniuses space to spin their magic,
to source insight & encouragement from committed peers,
to give & receive the gifts of readership & feedback,
to combat imposter syndrome with empowerment & education,
& to transform how sex work narratives reach a grander audience

About the Facilitator

My SW pseudonym is Madeleine Blair (anything but he/him). I’m based in North Carolina. Before spending much of the last decade as a FSSW, I earned both a MFA & BA in Creative Nonfiction Writing. However, I am a poet at heart; terrifyingly, I’ve recently ventured into fiction & screenwriting.
I publish under my government name and have worked as a both a magazine copy-editor and English prof. I currently self-publish a blog and provide independent freelance editing services. Over the years, I have led many community creative writing workshops. This one is by far my favorite.

Previously…

“Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. … Use up lots of paper. Perfectionism is a mean, frozen form of idealism, while messes are an artist’s true friend.”
Anne Lamott, Bird By Bird
“I could not have written [Girlhood] without believing in the reader who needed it. At the outset of the process, before I could muster much tenderness for my young self, I could love that invisible reader. I could feel her love in return. And as I wrote, her figure expanded and contracted until it matched the shape of my young heroine.”
Melissa Febos, Body Work
